NZ’s only open ocean changes marathon race

Mitamitaga Ole Pasefika Va’a-alo invite you to participate in the only open ocean crew changes race in Aotearoa. One of the oldest and most revered events in Waka Ama has been upgraded to include junior paddlers and those senior paddlers keen to get a taste of ocean racing but who might not be quite ready for a full 40km of ocean racing. This year the event features: 42km of ocean racing; a short course Colts and Fillies (under-23) 18km changes race; a short course 18km iron race for senior crews.

There will also be a club points race combining the results of all three events..

Events:

  • Open men, Masters men (42km) 9 paddlers
  • Open women, Mixed and Mixed Masters (34km) 10 paddlers
  • Colts and Fillies Changes (18km) 10 paddlers (please note to qualify as a colt or filly paddlers, must be aged between 16 and 23 years as at January 1, 2016)
  • Short Course Open Men and Women, Masters, Mixed and Mixed Masters (18km) 6 paddlers
  • Ocean Ski Relay' division: Three paddlers in each team. $65 per paddler.  Entrants must provide suitable Support boat - please email [email protected] to enter this division
Club Points Race: To qualify clubs must enter one crew in any division of the senior changes race and one crew in the junior changes race.  The combined times of the two crews nominated will be added and the fastest time wins.  Time bonuses will be added for each additional crew entered in any of the Sugar Loaf races.

Entry fee includes support boat and post race meal.
