The current LDN 2021 W6 Waka hire list has now been posted on the event page. For those hiring out and those who have hired, please have a read through to ensure the information is correct. If you are still looking to hire a W6 Waka, please check the available spots and then email [email protected] to request a hire. Waka Ama NZ will endeavor to connect you up via email for W6 Waka hire, however it is up to you to arrange and confirm hire bookings.

Race Update: Hauraki Series - Whitianga 10 April 2021
Message from the event hosts: Kia ora paddlers, We are aware there is a bit of anxiousness regarding the weather for our event here in Cooks Beach this Sat 10th April. We are watching the forecast carefully as it is constantly changing. Our current forecast is showing 14 to 17 knots northerly and some showers. Cooks Bay due to its sheltered nature very rarely has unsafe conditions. At this stage all events are still going ahead but ALL W6’s must be prepared with skirts. We will be making a decision regarding J16s paddling by lunch time tomorrow. Our paddlers safety is our top priority and a course decision will be made on the morning with input from our safety boats and local coastguard. Te Rau Oranga o Ngāti Kahungunu Waka Ama have 3 capable J19M available for a mixed or men's team for the upcoming long distance nationals. One is a competent ocean steerer. 2021 Secondary School Nationals - Thats a Wrap!!
24 Exciting finals today rounded off a fabulous week at Tikitapu. Day 4 results available on line now! Big mihi to all the Volunteers, Coaches, Managers, Teachers and paddlers for helping to make this week successful. Safe travels home and we look forward to seeing you all in 2022.

Bereavement: Wiremu (Willie) Kaa
Yesterday, past Horouta Waka Hoe club president and paddling stalwart, Willie Kaa, passed away after a short battle with cancer. Willie was a staunch and dedicated clubman, following and supporting his daughter Hinerangi when she started paddling in 2005.
