The “Ace Cuthers Memorial Club Spirit Award” is a trophy that is chosen by the Volunteers and Officials at the event.This trophy was carved and named in honour of Ace Cuthers who we sadly lost in 2010

14th Portage Crossing is still running as a commemorative regatta and journey leaving from Kohimarama Bay around 9am. There are no fees as this is not a race. Paddlers will participate in the opening of new club rooms at Panama Road and then continue to Mangere Bridge via Portage Road and participate in the powhiri by Tainui at the MUMA/Portage festival at Mangere Bridge. We look forward to hosting this race next year

Last year the Waka Ama NZ /Ngā Kaihoe o Aotearoa Board had great pleasure in announcing the establishment of a ‘virtual’ Hall of Fame to permanently recognise outstanding contributors to the sport of waka ama in New Zealand/Aotearoa. This year we have two very special people who dedicated much of their lives to the sport of Waka Ama in New Zealand since it began in this country - Louise Henderson and Ace Cuthers
