Te Puku O Te Ika - Sprint Champs, Waikato River Authority, is on its way and we are looking forward to having all of our Te Puku o Te Ika Kaihoe back here at Lake Karāpiro for what will be a full weekend of regional racing.
Waikato River Authority were announced in September as the naming sponsor of the Te Puku o Te Ika Sprint Champs. The Waikato River Authority (WRA) has signed a two-year agreement to become the naming and principal sponsor of the Te Puku o Te Ika Outrigger Canoe Association’s (TPoTI) Regional Sprint Championships, covering the 2026 and 2027 events.
Please read the Event Information Pack in detail. There are a number of changes to be aware of.
Some important notes:
- All W6 divisions will be provided up to 3 races. Turns races will be prioritised as a means of providing practice on the Nationals course for the W6 teams. Races may be changed to straight races (no turns) should the programme run behind time.
- J16 and J19 Women and Men W6 Races -These W6 grades will be racing on Saturday afternoon. Please ensure your parents, coaches and managers are aware of this.
- Volunteers - no event is possible without volunteers, please share the love by encouraging whānau to register to volunteer over the weekend. Clubs are requested to provide at least 4 volunteers for the entire weekend. Register via the link on the pānui or register here
- W1 Pre - weighing - All W1 paddlers are asked to complete the W1 preweighing and Representative Top sizing form. Click here to complete form.
- W1 Dash and W12 Qualification Changes - Please read the Event Information Pack and 250m Dash Club Time Trial Requirements documents attached. Entries will be managed by TPOTI. Club Representatives, please login to the event online entries to submit your triallists.
- W1 Medals - We are excited to announce that medals will be awarded to the W1 finalists placings for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The awards ceremony will be held immediately following the W1 racing on Saturday. Please read the Event Information Pack for details.
- TPOTI Representative Kit - We have answered the call and we are launching a new TPOTI Representative top. These will be given out to successful qualifiers at the W1 medal ceremony on Saturday, immediately following the W1 racing.
- Club Representative – Please review the Event Information Pack in detail to register your club representatives for the event. Click here to register. There are a number of key dates to meet for entries and payments. Please also ensure your club is a financial member of TPOTI prior to entering the event. Please ensure your paddlers are also reaffiliated to Waka Ama NZ. October is a busy month getting club memberships, TPOTI membership, Waka Ama NZ Affiliations sorted. Non financial and affiliated members will be unable to enter the event.
- Safety Waivers - Sprints will now have online waivers for each paddler to complete. Under 18yrs will require a parent or guardian to sign. Once the paddler roster is complete, please get all paddlers to find their name below on the entries, click their name and complete the form. It's very easy to do.
- Vendors - Want to have a stall at the event? - Register your request here. Please share it out to your club members and support whānau who might be interested.
- Disability Parking Pass - Have a person with mobility impairments? Please register for a pre-issued mobility parking pass. Please read the Event Information Pack for eligibility. Register here.
- What’s App Channel - This year additional to loud speaker announcements, race calls to marshalling will be made on our What’s App channel -sign up and follow us here
- Incident Report - Should an incident occur at the event. Those involved are asked to complete an incident report afterwards. This is not a notification to action an emergency response, but follows up on our Health and Safety monitoring. Click here to complete an incident report.

U23 through to Golden Master (M60) $40 per paddler
J19 and Premier W1 Dash 250m (limited entries) No Fee
W6 Fee- Team Fee (not per paddler)
Taitama / Taitamahine, Intermediate, J16, J19,, M70, M75, M80 $120 per crew.
U23 through to Golden Master (M60) $180 per crew
