Kaitūao

Long Distance Nationals cannot operate without the goodwill and manaakitanga of our waka ama whānau volunteering their time and skills. Volunteers are needed throughout the event, in areas such as venue set-up, waka unloading, registration,  safety checks, water safety, results, and waste minimisation.

Kaitūao get the chance to experience first hand the mahi involved in running a large scale event, and take their new skills back to their regions and clubs.

Thanks to everyone for their awesome response 10+ registered volunteers - ka rawe! We are working through numbers and logistics at present, so have closed off registrations for now, until this is complete.

W6 Waka Hire

The 2026 LDNs Waka Hire Spreadsheet is now live. This links clubs who have waka to hire for individual races, with those from out of town needing to hire a waka.

This sheet is for W6 waka hire only. Clubs and individuals will need to bring their own W1, V1, and OC2 waka, or arrange private hire.
  • Waka hire is completed directly between the club hiring out and the club wanting to hire. 
  • All contact information and details of waka availability are visible on the sheet. 
  • This sheet is live, and automatically updates as available waka are listed and booked.
  • Club hiring out waka will need to provide the safety gear, eg spray skirts 
Hiring clubs set their own hireage fees, and will liaise directly with the club wanting to hire, to confirm logistics and payment.
