Future Scheduling of IVF World Championships - Aotearoa Member Club Consultation

The International Va’a Federation (IVF) Board has recently released a memo regarding the future scheduling of World Sprint and World Distance Championships beyond 2026. As part of this process, they are seeking feedback from all member federations to help guide their decision-making.

The IVF has identified that hosting World Championship events every year is not sustainable and is now consulting on two possible alternatives. The memo attached outlines these options, along with the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities of each.

Key points:
  • There will be no IVF World Championship in 2027.
  • Two alternate schedules are being considered, alongside the current status quo.
  • Member federations (including Aotearoa) are asked to review the options and provide feedback (please note this has been extended to the 19th of September)
You can read the full memo attached.

Your feedback is important to ensure that the voice of our Waka Ama community in Aotearoa is represented in this global consultation.

A survey link will be sent directly to member clubs, with one submission permitted per club. If you have any questions, please direct them to your club in the first instance.
