With heavy hearts, the Messenger and Baker whanau wish to advise of the passing of our matriarch, Hellen Messenger (Erena Dixie Waiomio).

Beloved mum of Daniel and Sam Baker, and much loved nanny to Kaiiber, Jade, Zoe, Bailey and Beaudan.

Manager extraordinaire of many Waka Ama teams and paddlers around the motu, and life-long Waka Ama paddler and supporter.

Hellen passed peacefully at the Rotorua hospital, with her son by her side. She will be dearly missed by whanau, many friends, and Waka Ama whanau around Aotearoa.

Hellen will lie at Sam’s place, 8 Springfield Road, Rotorua on Wednesday 6 July. Hellen will be heading to Akerama Marae at 13 Haile Road, Hūkerenui (Just north of Whangārei) early Thursday morning. The burial will be on Friday at 10:00am Please feel welcome to come through and say your farewells.
