He Aituā: Gary Richards
Kia hiwa raa. Kia hiwa raa. Kua hinga teetehi o ngaa tootara kei roto i te wao nui oo Taane aa Gary Richards. It is with great sadness that we notify on the news of the passing of Gary Richards - Tauranga Moana OCC
Gary has been a life member of our club for many years and heavily involved in the Tauranga Moana Outrigger Canoe Club from its early days as Treasurer and Secretary. He was also involved in waka ama in Auckland with the Taniwha Grizzlies before he moved to Tauranga.
Gary was a key part of the team who ran the Tauranga Harbour Challenge, a TMOCC club regatta that soon became one of the largest events on the racing calendar.
Gary was recently paddling with his TMOCC Master 70s crew and attended Nationals with them after returning to waka from a break playing golf for a few years. Gary contributed to our club video on the club history - click here to watch
Gary's memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on Monday 17th of January at the Papamoa Surf Club, Papamoa Domain. The family have advised that attendees must be double vaccinated. Please bring your vaccination passports
We hope those who knew Gary are able to join us in sending our fellow paddler off on his next voyage.
