For those that have not yet had the opportunity to give this race a crack, it is a must!
To compete against the best in the world in these conditions is a great experience. We took 5 hrs and 44 min to race the 75km, the seas were relatively small (according to the locals, a little bigger than what we get on the Avon!) and finished 32nd overall out of 105 crews.
The start was an experience this year, it took 3 goes to get it right; was a pretty good effort from the organizers to turn 105 crews around and get them to line up again.
Well done to Brett and AD for their first change over race (Ad had no issues getting in the boat once we had told him about the tiger sharks)
This was our second crossing which was even made more special having a complete kiwi team – big thanks to Mike Nuku for steering the channel for the first time and putting up with the ‘Southern Humor’ for the 9 days also apologies again for not telling our hosts that you were a vegetarian – that lettuce looked tasty!
Special thanks to Air New Zealand for their help in getting us over to the race, we would have not been able to organise this ourselves and with their contributions it has made this trip obtainable.
Thanks to our families and friends for their support and also all the efforts of Max Banks in organising a bunch of boys that are very un-organised! – thanks again Max
Enjoy the pics see you on the water or at the pub!
