NKOA Council Meeting Summary and Action Notes. Meeting Date: 12 October 2008. Location: Auckland
Present:
The first Council meeting for the new term was held in Auckland at a new less expensive venue near the Auckland Domestic airport. This is an effort by Executive Council members to reduce operation costs until the financial status and a budget are established.
To continue efforts of decreasing communication gaps between NKOA Council, members and their clubs, and general paddler communities, a summary of activity, discussion, actions and responsibilities will continue to be produced closely following each Council meeting. This will be posted on the NKOA website and a copy sent to Regional Secretaries for viewing.
As a general reminder readers are asked to contact their club executives or nearest Regional organisation with initial queries.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Paddler affiliation Fee:
A clarification summary is to be posted on the website again to help understand the concept and collection of the per paddler fee.
Action: President by 1 November
Finances
Work is being done to complete comprehensive financial reports for the 2006/07 and 2007/08 years for auditing. Preliminary investigations show that there is still outstanding income from the 2008 Secondary School National event, which the Treasurer is sending out invoices for. Overdue payment amounts are being confirmed from various events including Worlds 2006, which are being looked at and payment plans being negotiated. On a positive note most of these outstanding accounts will be cleared by March 2009.
Funding
Applications for funding are being submitted to various organisations to support the 2009 National Sprints. Every effort is being made to ensure the event becomes self-sustaining without standards reducing or race fees having to be increased.
Working Groups
Three key areas have been identified that need considerable review and updating. Working Groups are being set up to look at Governance and Policy, Strategic Planning, and High Performance Selection Processes.
Events:
2008 World Sprints
Reports are yet to be released. Generally selection processes, management of National programmes, travel management and contingent management are being reviewed along with specific submissions from regional associations.

Anon - Awesome summary of what we as paddlers can expect from the new NKOA committee and of moving forward. As a paddler, club member etc, I’ve reaped the benefits from years of great planning from all former NKOA Presidents and their committees who gave of their, time, energy, and always with a passion and best intentions to our sport and I have no doubt that the new NKOA committee will do the same. So I want to congratulate all those past NKOA Presidents, committee and Regional Reps club members, volunteers who have brought NKOA as a sport from its humble beginnings to where it is at today and it could not have been done without great planning. Like any other sport it is what can be learnt from the past that can make for positive and future improvements. So let’s look back at what has been done well and improve on what can be done better or differently.
