AROCA 10km Series Race 1 Report - Takapuna Beach
On behalf of AROCA and the members and supporters of Akarana Dragon Sports, we would like to thank everyone from the Auckland region who turned up to Takapuna Beach to participate in Race 1 out of 10 - AROCA 10KM Series. A special thanks has to go out to our visitors from Gisborne Kiwi and her crew Kaiarahi TOA as well as Horouta veterans Rawiri Takao ad Bruce Campbell. We would also like to thank other individual paddlers from outside the region who attended.

Worlds at their feat
For country. For region. For club. A large group of Gisborne paddlers will be doing it for all three when they fly the New Zealand flag at the 15th world va’a outrigger sprint championships in Calgary, Canada in August. Success at national trials on Lake Karapiro over Easter will see the region of Te Uranga O Te Ra and Gisborne-based clubs Horouta and Mareikura proudly represented.

Mantra for success
Their team name is their mantra. Tane Uehaa translates to “men supporting each other”, and if that is followed in all its elements another chapter will be written into Gisborne’s proud waka ama history.
