Waikato Awa Race Results

This year Nga Tai Whakarongo had just under 150 paddler’s participating in the W6, W2 and W1 racing for the 2nd Annual Regatta of the Waikato Awa Race. Grades ranged from Juniors, Open, Masters and Senior Masters.

Waka ama race in full force

In one of the last long distance races of the year, everyone was out to claim the top prize. More than 100 paddlers from more than 15 teams came to compete at the Waikato Awa Race, the competition was first started in the 90s, and the organisers say they're thrilled with the turn-out.

Koroneihana Hoe Results

We would like to thank all paddlers and their supporters who came to our event during the annual Koroneihana, in particular our Christchurch paddlers who flew up the night before to paddle with us. Conditions were foggy at the start and then sunny as the race wore on. There was good racing in both the 10km and 14km with lead changes throughout the race. Tupu King was the fastest man and too good on the day backing up his good result in Tahiti. Nicky Kingi had a solid race staying in front of the local women paddlers.
