Charmaine - A quiet and hugely supportive friend that will be missed. James we met over 18 years ago and instantly connected as a friend, mentor, supporter, and totara not only to me but the community of Otaki and Hoe Tonga. You were a wonderful Father and adored your boys and especially loved Denise. My heart goes out to the whanau but I know James will live in our hearts and be right there helping us through the bad, good, sad, and happy times until we are together again. For those that may not have met James personally, know that he was a big part of waka ama in Hoe Tonga and the joy we get from it now, James and his whanau contributes to that enjoyment. Yesterday James Hapeta was laid to rest in the urupa at Rangiatea Church in Otaki

James, Denise and their 2 boys Justin and Regan have an association with our club that dates back from when it was established in 1993.

Their contribution to coaching, youth development, fund raising, club administration and all those other thankless tasks that gives a club the longevity and competitiveness we enjoy....well this family lead by James gave to the cause, were and remain passionate paddlers and ardent supporters of all the goodness that is and comes from waka ama. The final journey James took was upon the shoulders of friends, family and paddlers down the main street of Otaki village one last time. Fair winds, and a calm sea James for one last 500m when the time is right up Kapowairua (Spirits Bay) way.

We are left , bereft with the sadness of your loss, yet never will we forget the fruits of your learnings that came from your heart through your hands to us all. Even though the hurt cuts at our hearts at this time , with our prayers to our ancestors to god almighty shall in time the hurt deminish.
