BEREAVEMENT: Dave Mcfarland

He aituā, he aituā. Tangaroa whakamautai, Tangaroa arikinui, Rukuhia ki uta, rukuhia ki tai. Kua hinga tētahi totara i te waonui o Tāne. Nō reira e te rangatira e Dave e moe.

Hoea to waka, hoea ki Hawaki nui, Hawaiki roa, Hawaiki pamamao.
I karanghia te atua ki runga rawa mōu, nā rātou ngā tūpuna e tatari ana mo to taenga ake.
Ahakoa e noho mokemoke ana ōu whānau, haere, haere, haere atu rā, kei reira koe e okioki ai, nō reira, moe mai, moe mai, moe mai rā e te rangatira e Dave.

It is with great sadness that the Parihaka Waka Ama family announce the passing of our friend, our brother and an all round mighty man David McFarland. He left us the way he would have wanted with a paddle in his hand and on the water. David was a devoted father, grandfather and husband. He was a huge figure in our club and in the NZ paddling scene, he loved paddling, fixing things, helping people and encouraging us in his own unique way. But most of all he loved his family and his friends. He will leave a hole that can never be replaced. Our love and support go out to Lynley and all David's family. Farewell Dave, your waka journey with us is over but from here on may your seas be calm and your waka run true and you feel the warm sun on your back forever.
