AROCA Board Panui January 2016

AROCA BOARD PANUI
New Board Members
The Board has appointed its two remaining members from an impressive group of applicants. We welcome Sharon Hawke and Fole Finau who join Peter Reaburn (Chair), Louise Henderson, Mike Weiss, Joshua Perese and Sandra Staub making up the full Board of 7 members. Sharon’s and Fole’s profiles are added to the Board Member profiles attached to this panui.

AROCA Strategic Plan
A draft AROCA Strategic Plan was put together by representatives of Auckland clubs earlier in 2015. The Board met before Christmas to finalise the Strategic Plan. The Plan is attached for your information. It sets out our aims for the Region over the next three years. Board Members are now working through an “Action Plan” to ensure we have the processes in place to achieve the region’s strategic goals.

Meetings with Clubs
AROCA’s clubs are our members. We cannot achieve what we are setting out to do in our Strategic Plan without the club’s being actively involved. The Board wishes to meet with each club individually to outline our Action Plan and how clubs can play their part in moving our sport forward. We will be arranging meetings with Club Executives as soon as possible after the Nationals.

AROCA Administration
The Board has extended its contract with Waka Ama NZ to provide administrative support for the region through to the end of April 2016. During this period funding sources are being pursued with the aim of contracted administrative support, probably on a year by year basis. The most direct contact with AROCA will continue to be via email to the office – [email protected]

AROCA Race Events 2016
The Board has discussed and finalised dates and venues for a series of W6 and W1 races in 2016. Details are attached in the panui doc. These events are seen by the Board as being an essential part of our plan to grow waka ama in Auckland. We confidently expect great support!! Features of the series are:
  • The W6 events emphasis is on participation and catering for the large numbers of relatively new paddlers to our sport. But of course we expect experienced teams to compete as well.
  • The W1 events are more aimed at experienced paddlers, but novices are welcome to paddle with Juniors.
  • A new Secondary Schools Distance event is planned, to be held in June.
  • Entries for all events will be done online via the Waka Ama website and Race Management System.
Unlike previous years, these series will be run by AROCA. AROCA will:
  • Plan and organise the events
  • Book venues
  • Complete sanctioning forms and work through the sanctioning process with Waka Ama NZ
  • Arrange support boats for the events
  • Ensure timely management of the Series point s table and results.
For all events resource requirements will be contracted out – i.e. clubs and / or individuals will be able to declare their interest via a contract offer. Details of this arrangement will be circulated shortly.

New AROCA Logo
The existing AROCA logo appears at the top of this panui. It has served us well for the past 20 years, but it is time for a change!

The Board invites ideas for a new AROCA logo, by the end of February 2016. Please keep it simple, and in a form that looks good in a single colour. The designer of the new logo selected will receive a new Tai paddle of their own choice. We look forward to some great contributions!
