It was a wonderful afternoon, with the Auckland Rowing Club in full blazers, the coming together of all club paddlers from senior paddlers to the young, representatives from AROCA and the local community. 

 Whilst the blessing was being held , the rain fell.   We all sighed as smiled acknowledging  ‘he tohu tenei ” a sign from those who are no longer with us to see us reach this significant point in the project. 

Nga Hau Maiangi is the collaboration of four waka ama clubs, Te Paerangi Waka Ama, Cook Islands Outriggers, Manukau Outriggers, Pakuranga Outriggers and the Auckland Rowing club. The first of its kind for two water sports to come together under one purpose.

 The first phase is the construction of a pontoon. The second phase will be the removal of pylons from the centre of the estuary closest to the boat ramp outside the Auckland Rowing Club and replaced with new pylons alongside the Ian Shaw Park Reserve .  Thirdly the construction of a much anticipated building for Nga Hau Maiangi member clubs to house their waka and equipment and a communal space for meetings.

 We never anticipated but at the time this would just be a whare waka for the waka equipment. Now we can see many opportunities to utilize the space effectively to develop and strengthen not only the individuals, but the wider community.

We envisage the build will be completed by the end of Feb 2015.
