The 2018 Strongarm M2M was the preferred Maketu 2 Mount course. With the ENE wind it was the preferred and safest course to run the event. 18 of NZs best teams lined up to take on the challenging 32km course. The day started with a lot of rain and some large swells made it very interesting. Many teams choose different lines which made it hard to see your opposition. With the swell being so big teams were just 100-200m away but they could not see each other.

Most teams didn’t know where they were positioned until they got to Rabbit island just off the mounts main beach. This point is where your body starts to feel it and the teams that had done the work will then pull away. MJs and Nekeneke were both ahead at this point with MJs leading by a few hundred meters and nekeneke only a canoe length. The race got even closer in the mens with 4 teams within 100m as they went around rabbit island. MJs and Nekeneke proved they had done their homework and extended their leads with 2km to go to be 2018 champions.
